The Importance of Preventive Maintenance

Suggested Preventive Prevents exhaust gases from entering the passenger compartment
Lowers harmful emissions
Improves fuel efficiency
Optimizes your vehicle’s performances
Reduces noise pollution

Components of the emissions and exhaust systems do a lot more than just reduce the engine sound level. They also carry engine exhaust gases safely from the engine to the rear of the vehicle, help the engine start and run smoothly, maintains engine performance and reduces harmful emissions.

These systems feature a muffler, a resonator and various exhaust pipes, two valves (PCV and EGR), an exhaust manifold, a gas cap, and an air pump, as well as oxygen sensors which provide the onboard computer with the necessary information to ensure proper fuel management. A defective exhaust system will allow poisonous carbon monoxide into your vehicle passenger compartment .

Another very important component of that system is the catalytic converter, which removes most of the pollutant gases from your exhaust system. It reduces fuel consumption and is a step towards a healthier environment – which is your responsibility as a vehicle owner.

Warning Signs of a Defective Part

Apart from the "Check Engine" light, which should never be ignored, your vehicle has its ways of letting you know there is a problem. Rattling, hissing or coughing noises, louder than usual exhaust sounds or exhaust fume odours inside the vehicle should always be investigated.

 Excessive exhaust noises
Exhaust gas odours in passenger compartment
 Strange noises during normal drive
 Increased fuel consumption
Engine roughness at cruising speed or when passing

Minimize the environmental impacts of car driving while keeping your passengers safe

Ask about these products:
  • Full line of shocks and struts perfectly adapted to your budget and needs in capacity (heavy loads or towing) and performance.
  • CV shafts remanufactured to the precise specifications of your vehicle manufacturer (new units also available for some models).
Parts to be inspected or replaced

Suggested Preventive Maintenance*

Emission and exhaust system: Inspected on a yearly basis.

Oxygen sensors: May need to be replaced as soon as 100,000 km on some models. Note: 1996 and later models can have up to four sensors

Catalytic converter: Should last the life of the vehicle; a faulty converter indicates a problem with oxygen sensors.
Ask about these products:
  • Remanufactured and/or reprogrammed on-board computer
  • Chrome or stainless steel spouts
  • Performance exhaust system packages for improved engine performance and sportier sound.
* Average only. Please consult your automotive technician or see your Owner's Manual to find out about the maintenance schedule specific to your vehicle.

Emission and Exhaust System Inspected once a year*
