Components
of the emissions and exhaust systems do a lot more than just reduce
the engine sound level.
They also carry engine exhaust gases safely from the
engine to the rear of the vehicle, help the engine start
and run smoothly, maintains engine performance and
reduces harmful emissions.
These systems feature a muffler, a resonator and various exhaust
pipes, two valves
(PCV and EGR), an exhaust manifold, a gas cap, and an air pump,
as well as oxygen
sensors which provide the onboard computer with the necessary information
to
ensure proper fuel management. A defective exhaust system will
allow poisonous
carbon monoxide into your vehicle passenger compartment .
Another very important component of that system is the catalytic
converter, which
removes most of the pollutant gases from your exhaust system. It
reduces fuel
consumption and is a step towards a healthier environment – which
is your
responsibility as a vehicle owner.
